01 / Teenage Fanclub release Do Not Dare To Dream
Teenage Fanclub have released Do Not Dare To Dream, their 13th album, through Merge Records. The Scottish guitar-pop band recorded it at Black Bay Studio on Great Bernera in the Outer Hebrides, with Norman Blake and Raymond McGinley leaving room for their bandmates to shape the arrangements.
The title comes from Blake’s “I Do Not Dare To Dream,” a response to the motivational instruction to do precisely the opposite. “I don’t think the world works that way,” he says in Merge’s album notes. McGinley adds: “We can still be cheerful and optimistic in the face of things not being great.” The ten-track record arrived on October 9; “Day In The Sun” was its first single.
02 / Rocketship follow their anniversary tour with Hurt Feelings
Rocketship’s return has brought a new record alongside the anniversary celebrations. The Portland indie-pop band, led by Dusty Reske, will release Hurt Feelings on October 30 through Darla. “New Threats,” its first single, is available now.
The announcement follows a 30th-anniversary reissue of their 1996 album A Certain Smile, A Certain Sadness and their first tour in eight years. Darla’s release page lists ten tracks, including a version of the Bee Gees’ “Lovers.” Two more previews are scheduled before the album: “Hotwired for Love” on October 16 and “Lovers” on October 23.
03 / Carissa’s Wierd share another song from their first album since 2002
Jenn Champion and Mat Brooke have shared “I Don’t Feel Like I Feel Right,” the second preview of Carissa’s Wierd’s Somewhere Further Than Far Away. The Seattle band’s first album since 2002’s Songs About Leaving is due January 8, 2027, through Nettwerk.
“Mat and I have lived a lot of lives together,” Champion says in the announcement reported by Stereogum. She describes the song as a reckoning with their past and present, and with a relationship that can feel fated despite everything that happens along the way. The group split in 2003 and released a one-off reunion single in 2011. “No One Lives Here Anymore” was the album’s earlier preview.
04 / Katie Dey announces universal will
Melbourne musician Katie Dey will self-release universal will on November 6. Opening track “for you” is out now, introducing a ten-song album that follows 2023’s never falter hero girl.
In a letter quoted by The Needle Drop, Dey calls it an “indie rock concept album about falling out of love with the computer.” She describes spending about a year and a half making it in her bedroom, drawing on early musical loves including Unwound, the Smashing Pumpkins and Sparklehorse. Her account connects the record to the experience of being watched and catered to online in ways she neither wanted nor asked for.
05 / LOWSUNDAY hand Call Silence to two remixers
Pittsburgh duo LOWSUNDAY have made Call Silence Remixed available through Projekt Records. Peter Guellard, working as Psychotribe, and label founder Sam Rosenthal each rework the same song. The release follows the band’s 2025 return with new material after a long absence.
Guellard also directed the video for his “Silent Tribe Remix,” using locations including the University of Pittsburgh’s concrete Posvar Hall. In the release announcement, he connects those surroundings to memories of growing up among the apartment blocks of communist Poland. Guellard and LOWSUNDAY’s Shane Sahene have known each other since the 1990s; a later meeting at a Pittsburgh goth club night led to the remix. Rosenthal is also the musician behind Black Tape For A Blue Girl.
06 / XTR HUMAN release Fake
Berlin musician Johannes Stabel has released “Fake” as XTR HUMAN through Wie Ein Gott Records. Recorded at Infinite Power Studios in Los Angeles, the single was produced and mixed by Matia Simovich and released on October 9.
Post-Punk.com’s announcement describes its subject as digital isolation and the pressure to maintain an identity online. Stabel began XTR HUMAN in 2012, moving from coldwave and post-punk into harder electronic dance music. “Fake” follows this year’s Rave God EP; forthcoming appearances include Substance in Los Angeles on October 24 and Berlin’s Unterwelt Festival on October 31.
