01 / Grimes shares a trailer for Psyopera
Grimes has shared Eve Is Online…, a trailer for her forthcoming album Psyopera. Released on October 7, it places artificial intelligence inside a creation story. No album release date or tracklist has been announced, according to The FADER.
In her April interview with Nnedi Okorafor, Grimes described returning to songwriting through poetry and a rap commission, then adding pop songs to what had been an experimental spoken-word record. She said the album’s only AI contribution was some lyrics written by DeepSeek for the song of the same name.
02 / Star Moles joins Dead Oceans
Star Moles, the project of Philadelphia-based songwriter Emily Moales, has signed to Dead Oceans. The label will give Highway to Hell its first vinyl release on December 4. The October 7 announcement came with a single and video for “Born Again.”
Kevin Basko, who records as Rubber Band Gun, recorded and mixed the song at his Historic New Jersey studio. Moales calls it “a painting of real frustration,” using mythic language rather than a literal account of events. Lucky Marvel directed the video in South Philadelphia.
03 / Ebbb follow Shallow Hits with “Public”
London trio Ebbb released “Public” on October 8 through Ninja Tune. The standalone single follows their debut album, Shallow Hits, released on July 10. “It’s about confronting fears, moving forward, and not losing sight of who you are,” the band say.
04 / Interlay prepare snow covers your insides
Chicago band Interlay will release their four-song third EP, snow covers your insides, on October 23. Pleasure Tapes is issuing a cassette edition. Singer and guitarist Alexandria Ortgiesen is joined on the record by bassist Nate Dixon and drummer Brent Favata.
“Silo” began with Ortgiesen’s memory of staying awake until dawn on a friend’s farm with someone she loved. She describes it as a song about loneliness, recalling smoke and fog over the silo. Interlay are billed with MX Lonely at The Meadows in Brooklyn on October 8 ahead of further dates in the Midwest.
05 / Celyn of Gwent’s Dying and Rising responds to the climate crisis
Welsh artist Celyn of Gwent released the ten-track debut Dying and Rising in September. Tom Morgan describes it as an “elegy for the climate crisis” in Clash’s Welsh music roundup. The project also takes the form of a solo audiovisual performance, combining electronic music, live voice and poetic monologues.
06 / Awning sign to Winspear with “Little Green Book”
Auckland five-piece Awning have joined Winspear and released “Little Green Book,” their first single for the label. Recorded at Roundhead Studios and produced by De Sevens, the song deals with grief. Singer Christian Dimick says its open-ended imagery gives him some privacy while leaving room for other people’s meanings: “We carry people’s words around for them after they are gone.”
Winspear founder Jared Jones calls Awning the label’s first New Zealand signing and its second international artist, following Swapmeet. Bassist Damin McCabe directed the single’s video.
